PEAXY SUCCESSFULLY DEPLOYS AUREUM IN THE AWS CLOUD FOR FORTUNE 25 LEADER
JULY 28, 2014Peaxy, Inc. has taken a major step forward by successfully deploying and testing the Peaxy® Aureum™ in the Amazon Web Service (AWS) cloud as proof of technology for a Fortune 25 industrial leader. This milestone validates deployment of the Peaxy architecture on-premises and off-premises to provide data management for advanced analytics on a hyper scale, including hybrid cloud implementations.
The installation consisted of the full Aureum, including management, analytic, namespace and data space servers and tested writing, reading and calculating functionality. Test results proved the successful operation in the AWS cloud of a prototype Aureum scaled to 26 nodes and 20 million files.
The initial deployment was implemented on 10 nodes running a predefined Peaxy AMI attached to Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS) and used the AWS Management Console and AWS API scripting. Aureum itself was configured and managed using the API accessed by a secure AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).
- The security configuration enabled key network protocols including TCP, UDP, HTTPS, ICMP and SMTP.
- Peaxy used the GUI to configure three storage classes, each containing 610 GB with a replication factor of 1 or 2.
- Peaxy configured automated data policies for each storage class and then created multiple input streams to employ the automated policies in parallel.
- Both Aureum and clients accessing Aureum were located in the same EC2 availability zone.
After scaling the configuration to 26 nodes using:
- AWS Cloud Formation to leverage templates
- Automation toolset to manage Aureum
- A data load of 20 million files and a single storage class,
the performance comparison with an on-premises Aureum installation yielded the following results:
- Peaxy Aureum deployed on AWS operated successfully throughout the test.
- Aureum performance met expectations and verified the ability to select different cost/performance points based on user needs.
With this delivery and test, Peaxy has proven the Aureum can provide a viable, scalable and high-performance AWS storage option. This direction aligns with planned new features to enable the Aureum to provide cloud-based storage as another storage class, allowing the user to view the entire dataset as a continuum from on-premises to cloud.
